The trail, 3,668 meters long, with an elevation gain of 217 meters and a travel time of approximately 2 hours, is the most challenging section of the SVA, which connects all five seaside villages within the Cinque Terre National Park.
Starting from the village of Vernazza, you pass through the narrow streets and climb up to overlook the 14th-century Church of Santa Margherita di Antiochia. After crossing the small bridge over the Riolo stream at 150 meters above sea level, you reach the terminus of one of the more than fifty agricultural rack railways that traverse the terraced fields of the Cinque Terre.
The trail winds with various ups and downs through the Mediterranean scrub and crosses, with a splendid humpback bridge built with local sandstone, the Acquapendente stream, which flows into the sea just before reaching Monterosso.
Once you reach the Punta Corone peninsula, which can be reached in 5 minutes’ walk by leaving the main path, you can enjoy a splendid view of Monterosso al Mare and the hill of San Cristoforo, where the Capuchin Convent and the Church of San Francesco stand.
Have a good walk!
